Downtown Encinitas shops and restaurants will open their doors to costumed trick-or-treaters Saturday, Oct. 31, for the annual Safe Trick-or-Treat along South Coast Highway 101.
The free event runs from 5 to 8 p.m., according to the Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association, which organizes the evening. Families can stroll the downtown corridor while collecting treats from participating businesses that will stay open late for the occasion.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the trick-or-treating route stretches from Encinitas Boulevard to K Street along the highway.
Several locations along the route will host activities beyond candy. The Lumberyard Courtyard will have live music. The 101 Artists Colony plans kids' games, according to North Coast Current. Pacific View Arts Center will offer free family art activities and free parking in its lot for the evening.
The Self-Realization Fellowship will set up a large pumpkin display in front of its bookstore at K Street and Highway 101, according to the MainStreet Association's event page.
This year's treat sponsor, Modena Allergy + Asthma, will hand out allergy-friendly candy in the Lumberyard Courtyard, the association said. The candy comes from Yum Earth, a brand that makes treats free of common allergens.
Parents keeping an eye on the weather should know a storm system could affect the coast around Halloween. We reported Oct. 26 on the possibility of heavy rain reaching Encinitas.
No admission fee or registration is required. Details are available on the Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association's website at encinitas101.com.
