The Patton Pending Ukulele Ensemble performs a free lunchtime concert at the Encinitas Library on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The show runs from noon to 1 p.m. in the library's Community Room, 540 Cornish Drive. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free.

Directed by guitarist Jimmy Patton, the ensemble builds its sound around layered ukulele parts and harmonies, according to the North Coast Current. The group also plays guitar, cello, bass and percussion, with some performances adding harmonica, melodica and flute. Its repertoire spans multiple genres rather than sticking to traditional ukulele music, according to the city of Encinitas.

The Sept. 9 concert is the first in the city's Weds@Noon series, a recurring free program at the library. Three more Wednesday noon concerts follow on Sept. 16, Sept. 23 and Sept. 30, with performers not yet announced.
