About 100 artists take over North Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia on Sunday, Aug. 30, for the 20th Annual LeucadiART Walk.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features a live art installation by Encinitas muralist Skye Walker, a free hop-on/hop-off trolley and a children's art area. The Leucadia 101 MainStreet Association expects roughly 8,000 visitors to what organizers call the largest juried fine art show in North County, according to the association's event page.

Sculptors, potters, photographers, printmakers and handmade crafters fill about a dozen plazas stretching from 396 N. Coast Hwy. 101 in the south to 1144 N. Coast Hwy. 101 in the north.

All sales go directly to the artists.

Walker, a nationally recognized muralist based in Encinitas, will perform a live art demo at Leucadia Roadside Park, 860 N. Coast Hwy. 101, The Vista Press reported. The association's social media described the appearance as a "live art installation." His work draws on nature and the human connection to natural surroundings.

Getting there

A free, open-air trolley begins at 9:30 a.m. from the La Costa Avenue Park-and-Ride off Interstate 5 at the La Costa Avenue exit. It stops along the route throughout the day, with the last ride returning to the Park-and-Ride at 5:15 p.m.

The association encourages walking, biking and skating. A free bike valet, sponsored by Leucadia Cyclery, operates at The Brown Studio, 860 N. Coast Hwy. 101. Street parking is available in pods along the train tracks on the east side of Highway 101 from Marcheta Street to Grandview Avenue.

Family and food

A Children's Artwalk is set up at Gold Coast Plaza, 466 N. Coast Hwy. 101. A 21-and-older beverage garden with live music is located at the Swell Property Lot, 914 N. Coast Hwy. 101.

The free-admission model has been a point of pride for the association. "The fact that we can keep it free to the public is a huge win," then-Executive Director Brittany Corrales said in April 2023, when the organization issued a call for artists for the 17th annual edition.
