La Costa Canyon's girls volleyball team, ranked No. 2 in San Diego Section Division II, faces its toughest stretch of the season with matches Tuesday, Oct. 6, against Westview and Thursday, Oct. 8, at league-leading Torrey Pines.

The Mavericks (14-14, 1-3 Avocado League) sit at .500 overall, but that Division II seed means this week's results carry weight beyond the league standings. At 1-3 in Avocado League play, LCC has little room for error.

Tuesday's Oct. 6 non-league visitor, Westview (14-7), is no soft tune-up. The Wolverines rank No. 5 in San Diego Section Division I and No. 45 in California, according to MaxPreps. First serve is at 6 p.m. LCC's home record this season is 2-5, so the Mavericks will need a strong showing on their own court.

Outside hitter Mia Rohrbach leads the LCC offense with 93 kills and 180 receptions. Setter Sadie Goldberg has distributed 197 assists, and libero Pania Golestani anchors the back row with 135 digs. Lucy Stratton paces the serving game with 32 aces, while middle blocker Olivia Moody has recorded 11 blocks.

Thursday's Oct. 8 league match at Torrey Pines is the bigger test. The Falcons (14-3, 4-0 Avocado League) are unbeaten in league play and ranked No. 1 in the San Diego Section, No. 3 in California and No. 9 nationally, according to MaxPreps. Torrey Pines swept LCC 3-0 when the teams met Sept. 22.

The Falcons hold statistical advantages in nearly every category. Torrey Pines has 652 kills to LCC's 416, 124 blocks to 57, 761 digs to 670, 832 receptions to 663, and 621 assists to 410. Opposite hitter Parker Herrin leads Torrey Pines with 198 kills, setter Emery Gonzales has 512 assists and libero Lila Green has 183 digs.

One area where LCC has an edge: serving. The Mavericks have recorded 140 aces to Torrey Pines' 120.

A strong finish could still deliver a high Division II playoff seed when CIF brackets are set. LCC and Westview are scheduled to meet again Oct. 22.
