Coastal Encinitas Rotary's annual Purse Bingo fundraiser returns Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Encinitas Community Center. The early-bird ticket window closes Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Individual tickets are $75 through Wednesday. The price jumps to $85 on Thursday, Oct. 1. A table of eight costs $600 at the early-bird rate, rising to $680 after the deadline, according to the event's ticket page.
Seating is limited.
The evening includes eight rounds of bingo, each with a new designer purse on the line, plus silent and live auctions, raffle prizes, a light supper and drinks, the Rotary club said in a news release published by the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Community Resource Center CEO John Van Cleef will emcee. Larry Gonzales returns as live auctioneer.
New this year: the Golden Ticket. Four randomly selected goodie bags will contain Golden Tickets, each hiding a surprise gift card from Nordstrom, HomeGoods, See's Candies or Williams Sonoma. Winners will know before the first bingo number is called.
Last year's event featured a mystery silent auction in which 20 gift cards, valued between $25 and $100, were offered without revealing their amounts. The Nordstrom cards drew the most bids, the Rotary club said in its news release. Three higher-value designer purses were auctioned live, each paired with surprise items and a bottle of ONEHOPE sparkling rosé.
Purse Bingo started small. In 2016, 23 people gathered in an Encinitas living room and raised $1,563. The event later moved to Headlines The Salon in Encinitas. By 2019, a single evening was raising more than $7,000. After a pandemic pause, Coastal Encinitas Rotary took over in 2022. This year marks the fifth under the Rotary banner.
Proceeds benefit three San Diego County nonprofits serving women and families. Carol's House, a program of the Encinitas-based Community Resource Center, is a 24-bed emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence.
Alabaster Jar Project serves more than 400 survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation each year. About 70% of its staff are survivor graduates.
DreamKeepers Project raises funds for the Family Recovery Center, which provides residential and outpatient treatment for pregnant and parenting women with children through age 10.
The event is open to everyone. No Rotary membership is required. Tickets are available on the Coastal Encinitas Rotary event page, or email [email protected] with questions.
The Golden Ticket drawing begins before the first bingo call on Oct. 13.
