Encinitas residents will get their first look at results from the city's Age Friendly community survey when the Senior Citizen Commission meets Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Commissioner Stephen Lord is scheduled to present baseline survey findings, demographic data and a review of corporate voucher programs as alternative transportation options for seniors. The survey, launched in June 2025, asked residents about housing, outdoor spaces, mobility, community engagement, health and wellness. It was funded by the San Diego Foundation and developed with San Diego State University's Center for Excellence in Aging & Longevity.
The specific results have not yet been made public. The data is listed as an attachment to the meeting agenda but was not available online as of Thursday, Sept. 10.
The meeting also features two public-safety briefings. Sgt. Kristy Trampus of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department North Coastal Station will present on traffic safety. Fire Chief Joshua Gordon of the Encinitas Fire and Marine Safety Department will cover fire prevention and safety.
The traffic safety presentation follows a special City Council meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 26, where council members directed staff to bring the city's Local Road Safety Plan and Comprehensive Safety Action Plan back for review, according to the city's Council Rundown. The council also directed the city manager to explore adding two Sheriff's deputies at the mid-year budget.
Ad-hoc committees will report on the commission's FY 2026-27 work plan goals. Recreation Center Manager Troy Mickelson will deliver a center operations report. Commission Chair Lambert Ling presides over the seven-member panel.
About 20% of Encinitas residents were 65 or older as of the 2020 U.S. Census, with a median age of 43.8 years.
The meeting begins at 2 p.m. in the Encinitas City Council Chambers, 505 S. Vulcan Ave. Residents who want to speak on agenda items can submit a speaker slip to the commission clerk. Each speaker gets three minutes. The commission secretary can be reached at 760-633-2740.
