Encinitas residents can weigh in on the city's public art direction at a Commission for the Arts meeting Monday, Nov. 2.
The seven-member commission, chaired by Katy Fox, will hear two special presentations and take up several agenda items at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers at 505 South Vulcan Ave., according to the meeting agenda.
Hillel Schwartz, archivist for the Encinitas Historical Society, will present on Encinitas public art. Schwartz co-coordinates the Council for Interpreting North County History (CINCH) with Carolyn Cope, president of the Encinitas Historical Society. CINCH is a roughly 30-year-old collaborative of historical societies, museums, archives, libraries and archaeological sites across North County San Diego, according to the society's CINCH page.
Karyn Williams of Creative Impact Collaborative, a San Diego-based public art and placemaking firm founded in 2025, will brief the commission on the Percent for Art program. The agenda lists a related report from the commission's Percent for Art Research Ad Hoc Committee.
The commission will also review its Sculpture Loan Program, including a call for artists and a call for review panelists.
Pacific View logo refresh
Arts Program Manager Laurette Garner will present a logo refresh for the Pacific View Arts Center, the city-operated arts venue at 380 West F St. in downtown Encinitas. The agenda does not describe the scope of the update.
The center occupies the former Pacific View Elementary School campus, which closed in 2003. The site was converted into an arts education center through an adaptive reuse led by COAR Design Group. The remodeled facility houses eight classrooms for music, visual arts, ceramics, fabric, broadcasting and performance, according to COAR.
Garner will also deliver a broader Cultural Arts Division report at the meeting.
